Weird Planets Drawn to the Post Falls Library Wall
August 25 2009
I adapted my "Drawn to the Wall" installation piece from the Jundt Gallery at Gonzaga University to the teen area at the Post Falls Library located in Post Falls, Idaho, just a short hop over the state line.
This piece had originally been installed for a one month show at Gonzaga on a 8 feet wide x 11.5 feet tall wall along with four other artist's pieces, each on their own wall. The wall in the library is 17 feet wide by 9 feet tall, so the "Weird Planets" are now aligned on a horizontal instead of a vertical arc. The wall is painted to resemble an old-style blueprint, i.e., dark blue background with white grid lines and drawing. The drawing is that of one of the found objects attached to the wall and depicts a belt-driven pulley of the type that used to be used to run various types of machinery. The objects have been built from a collection of oddments found in second hand stores and have had neon and argon-filled tubing added to each. The horizontal board seen in the photo is the mounting point for a computer table, obviously not shown here.
